To This Day So Far

You remember yourself loosely, the spitting image of,
roadside among the evergreens and other old memories—
piecing together (tourniquet of nothing) from scratch
the scratch we made, stillness in the annum where
the resting longing stayed / stillness in the dark

among the soon forgotten strays. What loose binding
you are (a frame) the self expanding brokenly,
new slack out in the rain (dearest me, the time—
what use was youth for such a blink?) cloth
and ash /hello my/ starving answer written plainly

on his face. The sky says jump— informal boy,
your time is coming, every slouch continuous (—)
from here it’s best to watch; (linger darling now);
a kiss is a contract their mouths make,
a smile sets the price and the market swoons

like vertigo was opium, every loopy fool a victor
/while/ reeling groggily (the same thing happens
again) the burden (freefall) comes to rest— is?—
this the trap I set for you, uncareful footsteps
tracing the eye’s desire, when better takers parted ways

someone *got* left in the middle. The car still
lurches forward now and then; other stranger
outshines us all in the passenger seat. My heart aches
to be there, and bring form to it, but the passing
hours left nothing in their godforsaken wake.
